Brazil is the largest country in South America, being the the 5th largest country in the world in size and 6th in population with Portuguese as the official language. It is considered a developing country with modern production in many sectors, but the per capita income and HDI levels are second world with 20% of its population on the poverty line. Brazil has many modern cities mainly in the capitals of its 24 states. The capital of the country is Brasilia being Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are the major cities.
Brazil has more than half of its territory covered by forest with diverse ecosystem of the Amazon and the abundant wildlife of the Pantanal wetlands.
The country is equally diverse in its culture and ethnic variety by regions, with europeans colonizer, immigrants, amerindians and africans form a vibrant and multicultural people.
